To return to the individual is to return to the most intimate unit of thought. Each artist in An Intimate Process of Strangeness brings with them a distinctive inner awareness—one shaped by emotion, memory, sensation, and perception. At the same time, their external perspectives are informed by broader coordinates: nature, city, class, and kinship. Together, these works create a collective portrait—one that seeks to embrace and redefine what it means to be human, not through spectacle or abstraction, but through proximity, vulnerability, and personal resonance.
What sets this exhibition apart is its choice of venue—a private house and courtyard in London, one that holds both domestic familiarity and a communal openness. This duality becomes the very mechanism of the exhibition. In such a space, the familiar becomes strange, and the strange becomes intimate. Viewers are gently displaced from habitual viewing modes, invited instead into a spatial experience where personal and collective, closeness and distance, dissolve and reform.
By curating a diverse body of works within this hybridized environment, An Intimate Process of Strangeness blurs the boundaries between art and life, between the artist’s interior world and the viewer’s own embodied presence. The exhibition does not seek resolution but embraces tension—between proximity and detachment, between recognition and unfamiliarity. It is a curatorial act of quiet reorientation: toward self, toward others, toward the textures of the world we share and question.

回归到个体，也是回到最私密的一个思考单位。每位艺术家自有的内部经验意识，反映着他们作为人的情绪、感知、记忆、觉察；而其外部意识经验，又从自然、城市、阶级、家庭等比较途径，来回观个体的收集与思索的立场。这个群体图像，无论出于思考还是落于实践，都意在从更简单、更亲密的方式，来拥抱和定义作为人——与这个世界的距离、与自身的关系。
当人观展，时常会因为间离效果产生的陌生化达成引人深思的路径，而本次展览的发生空间是非比寻常的，是一处兼具群体活动公共性的私人宅与院。陌生化与熟知化的反映各是一种反映，在富有熟悉情感的场域下，其能使人认识对象，但艺术家的差异化表达又使其产生陌生之感。本次展览便是人为地将与陌生的东西亲密，将与熟知的东西疏远。空间与群体作品视作一个有机整体，对二者之一或二者的强化，是弥补式的过程。
